Company Name: DAW BOOKS, INC.
Description: DAW Books is seeking a summer intern. The ideal candidate is a current college student or recent graduate looking for hands-on experience in the publishing industry. We are only looking for candidates who are long-term readers of science fiction and fantasy--geeks wanted!

We have an exciting opportunity to participate as a summer intern for a science fiction/fantasy book publisher. Learn about all areas of publishing including Editorial, Marketing, and Sales at a small independent publisher within a larger house.

Responsibilities and opportunities may include:
• Reading submitted manuscripts and writing reader’s reports for editors
• Proofreading covers, catalog copy, ebooks, etc.
• Taking part in book packaging and publication discussions
• Learning about publishing contracts, subsidiary rights and territories
• Researching and composing a publishing news roundup for DAW staff
• Providing administrative support (photocopying, scanning, filing, mailing)
• Other publishing projects as needs or interest dictate.

Emphasis can be adjusted based on candidate interests and aptitudes.
Length of Internship: Logistics:
• Our summer internship runs from May to August, with flexible start and end dates.
• Hours are very flexible, to work around class schedule; ideally, interns should be available to work 15-20 hours a week at the DAW offices in the West Village. Please include how many hours you would be available to work in your cover letter.
Requirements: Requirements include:
• Must be familiar with and interested in the science fiction and fantasy genres
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Location: New York, NY
Payment: Internship is unpaid. Students can earn college credit.
