Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

As valued members of the Development team, interns support the department’s vital resource development work to sustain our programming and plan for organizational growth. Reporting to the Development Coordinator, interns assist with funder research, grant writing, event management, maintenance of donor records, board relations, and other day-to-day operations. This role is a good fit for someone who is interested in exploring a career path in fundraising and/or nonprofit management. Salesforce (or general database) experience is highly valued. Occasional evening and weekend availability may be requested to support select events and initiatives.

Programs interns assist in the implementation of all program events and projects that support underserved aspiring teen writers from NYC public high schools and their mentors. Girls Write Now runs three programs: the Writing & Mentoring Program, the Digital Media Mentoring Program, and the College Bound Program. During the spring semester, programs interns work on projects to support writing and media workshops and year-end events and performances, to track mentee and mentor participation in programs and fulfillment of program requirements, and to support outreach and enrollment for the following program year.

Specific responsibilities may include: recording mentee and mentor fulfillment of program requirements, helping with logistics for program workshops and related events, including outreach, materials prep, and workshop/event staffing; staffing outreach events including school visits; processing and validating mentee and mentor applications to ensure data integrity in applicant record-keeping; researching and compiling resources and opportunities for current and alumni participants; and producing materials to reflect program events and achievements in the form of flyers, blog posts, videos, and social media content.

The Programs Internship requires evening and Saturday availability. Interns are asked to support 1-2 half-day Saturday workshops per month and help staff evening run-throughs for CHAPTERS readings and the QWERTY Exhibition, along with the Friday evening CHAPTERS and QWERTY events themselves. Please note that this is an office-based internship and programs internships are primarily administrative positions that support interns in building a solid foundation working with the nuts and bolts of non-profit programming.
