Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: The college division at W. W. Norton & Company is seeking an intern from January to April 2019 to assist with print and digital editorial projects in the Literature and Composition departments. The internship will offer insight into the editorial, marketing, and sales aspects of textbook publishing. Tasks will vary, but will include
• assisting with preparation of manuscripts for copyediting
• assisting with preparation of electronic ancillary materials (InQuizitive, a Norton online learning tool, PowerPoints, etc.)
• cataloging and organizing digital assets, ensuring hyperlinks function and assets correlate with print texts/Ebooks (Coursepacks, lecture PowerPoints, Tumblr blogs, etc.)
• organizing online book review programs and surveys
• researching data related to the literature and composition markets (English departments at colleges and universities)
• and other day-to-day office duties, including mailing, scanning, and copying.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Ideal candidates are detail-oriented and organized, able to work independently in an office environment, and interested in learning about college textbook publishing. Those with an interest in literature and composition are especially encouraged to apply. Experience working for a print or online publication and experience working in a writing center or as a writing tutor are plusses but not required. The candidate should be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, think critically, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Specific hours are flexible, but interns must be available to work 3-4 days for a total of 20 hours per week over a three-month period in our New York office. College juniors, seniors, and recent graduates preferred.
