Title: Sales manager @ Melville House
Description: Melville House is seeking someone to lead its sales program. This is not an entry level position. Rather, we seek an individual with significant experience in the book industry for what will be a senior position in the company, reporting directly to owners Valerie Merians and Dennis Johnson.

While the main duty of the position is to facilitate and foster improved sales across the retail spectrum — including both national and field accounts, as well as international and special sales — specific duties will include:

• Management of interaction with our sales team at Penguin Random House, including being primary contact — alongside the publishers — with various sales reps and their assistants

• Creation of sell sheets and PowerPoint presentations, and review of Title Information sheets, for Launch and Sales Conferences

• Sales data management and analysis via the PRH MyHouse system

• Edelweiss maintenance including creation of digital catalogues

• Bookseller outreach including regular newsletters and other emails and social media alerts, as well as ARC mailings

• Management of planning, logistics, and execution of all sales conferences and events such as Winter Institute and regional trade shows

• Inventory review and management with the publishers

• Developing strategies and initiatives to achieve new sales opportunities and channels

Requirements: Experience should include significant time working in book publishing and/or bookselling — preferably both. Melville House is a mission-driven company and extremely team-oriented, meaning that applicants must be comfortable with a collaborative environment, and with sincere enthusiasm for the brand.

Candidates should also exhibit:

• Excellent data management and analytic skills

• Strong familiarity with the Melville House list and the appropriate retail landscape

• A clear understanding of the independent publishing scene

• Top-notch written and verbal communication skills

• High organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work gracefully under deadline pressure

• A sense of collegiality and an ability to work creatively and collaboratively

• A sense of humor

Location: Brooklyn, NY

In your cover letter, please discuss not only your experience, but how your skills match up to our list. Please also include your salary requirements. MELVILLE HOUSE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
